Argentina household loan delinquency reaches 12.81% in August

Data from the Central Bank of Argentina (BCRA) indicates that household loan delinquency reached 12.81% in August. While this represents a slight monthly decrease of 0.13 percentage points from July, the rate has nearly doubled compared to August of the previous year, when it stood at 6.6%.

The decline in family delinquency was attributed to a 0.98% drop in the real balance of irregular credits. However, specific segments show significant strain: personal loan delinquency rose to 17%, and credit card delinquency remained at 12.2%.

In the corporate sector, delinquency rose slightly to 3.8%. Despite these pressures, the overall delinquency rate for the private sector remained relatively stable at 7.75%. The estimated probability of default (PDE) for families fell to 3.71%, marking its lowest level since August 2025, suggesting a potential moderation in the speed of credit deterioration.
