Argentina forest news: conservation efforts and illegal logging reports

In Argentina, efforts to protect native forests are highlighting both conservation successes and ongoing environmental challenges. In La Falda, municipal authorities are moving toward a legal framework to establish Parque Puma as the city's first natural and cultural reserve. The project covers approximately 75 hectares of native forest and includes heritage sites such as an ancient water tank and a historic Puma sculpture dating back to 1940.

Conversely, in the Los Cajones area of northern San Luis, allegations of illegal logging have surfaced. A local producer, Mario Baigorria, has filed complaints alleging that since 2022, unauthorized individuals have been extracting significant quantities of algarrobo and quebracho wood. The denunciations, which have been submitted to judicial and environmental authorities, include suspicions of involvement by local police members and relatives of a municipal official.
