Argentina fuel sales decline amid national consumption drop

Fuel sales in Argentina experienced a significant decline in July, following a national trend of decreasing consumption. According to data from the Secretaría de Energía, national sales dropped by 6.4% year-on-year, with 1,368,722 cubic meters sold compared to 1,462,232 cubic meters in the previous year. This marks the sixth consecutive month of declining sales.

Regional data shows varying levels of contraction. In Tierra del Fuego, sales fell by 6.47%, totaling 7,665 cubic meters. Salta recorded a more pronounced decrease of 15.9%. Other provinces experiencing notable declines include Tucumán (22.41%), Jujuy (16.42%), Salta (15.86%), Santa Cruz (14.49%), Misiones (13.84%), and La Rioja (13.73%).

Local workers and entrepreneurs in Salta reported that rising fuel costs are placing a heavy burden on those who rely on vehicles for their livelihoods, noting that fuel expenses significantly impact weekly operating costs and general cost of living.
