Argentina, Uruguay and Mexico host June environmental‑day events

Local governments in several South American cities organized public activities to mark the World Environment Day on 5‑6 June. The Salto department in Uruguay launched a month‑long programme with talks, tree planting and a stand at the Expo Sostenible 2026. In Argentina, municipalities such as Colón, Río Grande, Olavarría, Zárate and the capital of Santa Cruz de Tenerife (Spain) staged workshops on waste management, urban forestry, climate‑change education and hands‑on eco‑expos. The events included tree‑plantings of native species, recycling drives, educational talks, and interactive stations for children and families.

In Mexico, students from UNICEPES in Zitácuaro coordinated a city‑wide cleanup and river‑bank restoration on 5 June, while in Costa Rica the community of Puerto Potrero organized a festival with beach clean‑ups, water‑conservation talks and local markets. Across all locations the programmes aimed to raise public awareness, encourage sustainable habits and involve schools, NGOs and municipal agencies in collective environmental action.
