Argentina House in Paris faces scrutiny over management allegations

The Argentina House, a student residence located on the Cité internationale Universitaire de Paris campus, is facing intense scrutiny following allegations of restrictive management and political activity. Former residents and campus officials have described the environment under current leadership as a ‘mini-dictatorship’ characterized by surveillance, fear, and a lack of freedom of expression.

The controversy follows the 2024 appointment of Santiago Muzio, a lawyer close to President Javier Milei’s government, as director. Critics allege that Muzio has restricted access to common social areas and hosted meetings for far-right figures. Muzio previously directed a Madrid branch of a private school founded by far-right MEP Marion Maréchal.

In response to these concerns, Paris city officials have called on French Foreign Minister Jean-Noël Barrot to launch an investigation and engage with Argentine authorities. The situation may impact upcoming diplomatic discussions during President Milei’s scheduled visit to France.
