Management controversy at Argentina House in Paris

The management of the Maison de l’Argentine, a student residence within the Cité Internationale Universitaire de Paris, has come under intense scrutiny following the appointment of director Santiago Muzio, an appointee of President Javier Milei’s administration.

Paris City Hall has formally requested that French Foreign Minister Jean-Noël Barrot launch an investigation into the residence. Officials have raised concerns regarding unilateral decisions that allegedly violate university regulations, specifically the eviction of students and the non-renewal of residency contracts without providing alternative housing. Additionally, authorities reported the removal of commemorative plaques honoring victims of the Argentine military dictatorship and noted that the premises have been used for meetings promoting extreme right-wing ideologies, including Holocaust denial.

Critics and former residents have characterized the current leadership as a ‘mini-dictatorship’ marked by surveillance and a lack of freedom of expression. The controversy, which involves Muzio’s previous ties to far-right political figures, may impact upcoming diplomatic discussions during President Milei’s scheduled visit to France.
