Argentina implements training to protect children and elderly

In Argentina, the Justice of the Peace system is undergoing training to improve the protection of children, adolescents, and the elderly. Led by Viviana Karina Kalafattich, a judge from the Family Court, the virtual training session was part of a University Diploma in Proximity Justice.

The program aims to shift legal paradigms from old tutelary models toward recognizing children as full subjects of rights with progressive autonomy. The training emphasizes the application of international standards, such as the Convention on the Rights of the Child and the Inter-American Convention on Protecting the Human Rights of Older Persons, particularly in rural and suburban communities. The Justice of the Peace serves as a primary point of access to the legal system for many families, making it essential for identifying rights violations and taking immediate action in vulnerable situations.
