Argentina inflation projected to fall below 2% in August

Argentina's inflation is projected to decelerate in August, with most market analysts and government officials expecting the monthly Consumer Price Index (CPI) to fall below the 2% threshold. This anticipated slowdown follows a 2.1% increase in July and aims to align with the lower inflation rates seen during the administration of Javier Milei.

Various economic entities have provided specific projections for August. The Central Bank's Market Expectations Survey (REM) estimates inflation at 1.8%, while Fundación Libertad y Progreso projects a lower rate of 1.4%. Other consultancies, including Eco Go, Analytica, and C&T Asesores Económicos, have issued estimates ranging between 1.5% and 1.7%. Central Bank President Santiago Bausili noted that the current trend indicates a continued reduction in inflation compared to July.

While the national outlook suggests a return to deceleration, regional data shows mixed results. In Corrientes, the basic food basket saw a deceleration in July, though cumulative increases since late 2025 remain significant. Additionally, supermarket consumption in La Pampa has faced a long-term decline, with sales down 7.1% compared to 2023 levels.
