Argentina economic trends show rising soybean prices and mixed fiscal results
Argentina is experiencing divergent economic trends across its primary sectors. In the agricultural market, soybean prices have reached their highest levels since 2023, driven by strong demand for soybean oil and meal. Soybean oil prices are at levels not seen since the start of the Russia-Ukraine conflict, while soybean meal has seen a 20% increase compared to the average of the year.
In contrast, the dairy sector faces profitability challenges. While milk production and exports have reached record highs, the profitability of small and medium-sized dairy farms has turned negative due to lower prices paid to producers.
National fiscal data shows mixed results. Tax collection saw a real increase in September, bolstered by income tax and foreign trade duties. However, Value Added Tax (VAT) has experienced a real decline for eleven consecutive months, signaling continued weakness in domestic consumption. Public spending also showed a real decrease in both accrued and paid categories, reflecting a policy of fiscal containment.
