Argentina introduces bill to ban animal testing for cosmetics

A bill has been introduced to the Argentine Congress to prohibit animal testing for cosmetic, personal hygiene, and perfume products. Sponsored by Deputy Gabriela Estévez, the legislative initiative, numbered 4511-D-2026, seeks to ban the use of animals for safety and efficacy testing, as well as the subsequent manufacture, import, and commercialization of such products within the country.

If passed, Argentina would become the 46th country globally and the 8th in Latin America to implement such a ban. The proposal aligns with existing laws in Chile, Brazil, and Mexico. The bill suggests a 36-month implementation period following its enactment. The initiative is supported by the ‘También Sienten’ campaign and various civil society organizations, including Animal Interseccional and Te Protejo.
