Argentina launches community pet adoption drive and QR ID system for lost animals

The Dirección de Atención y Bienestar Animal (DABA) is offering 89 animals – 62 dogs and 27 cats – for adoption at its office in El Chamizal park. All pets are vaccinated, sterilized and micro‑chipped. Prospective adopters must present official ID, proof of address and bring a leash for dogs or a carrier for cats; DABA staff conduct random follow‑up visits after adoption.

In the neighboring districts of Villa Garibaldi, Sicardi and Ignacio Correas, the volunteer group “Sigo tu huella” has introduced free QR‑coded tags that link each animal to an online profile. Scanning the tag provides the owner’s contact details and the animal’s recent location, and an email notification is sent to the owner. The initiative also includes a website and chatbot for reporting lost, found or injured pets.
