Argentina lawyer elections focus on federal representation

Lawyers with federal registration in Argentina will elect representatives to the National Council of the Magistracy (Consejo de la Magistratura) on October 20 for a four-year term. The upcoming elections feature several competing lists focused on judicial reform and professional representation.

Juan Manuel Araoz Ortega, representing the Abogacía Federal list, is campaigning to ensure professionals from the interior of the country have equivalent conditions to those practicing in the Federal Capital. His proposals include making the federal registration process automatic for lawyers from the provinces and addressing professional fees.

Meanwhile, the list Unidad para la Defensa de la Abogacía, led by Alberto Biglieri and supported by Ricardo Gil Lavedra, is promoting a federalist platform. This group aims to increase the representativeness of professional associations from the interior, review the scoring and background systems used in judge selection contests, and defend professional jurisdictions against judicial reforms.
