Argentina announces citizenship investment program and US$4B copper project FAST-MOVING

During the Argentina Week in Paris, the Argentine government announced a new Citizenship by Investment Program, scheduled to become operational in the fourth quarter of 2026. Economy Minister Luis Caputo and Chief of Cabinet Diego Santilli presented the framework, which offers two primary investment routes: a US$350,000 non-refundable contribution to the National Treasury or a US$800,000 government bond subscription. Family members can also apply, with spouses and single children aged 18-25 requiring a US$100,000 contribution, and children under 18 requiring US$25,000.

In a separate announcement at the same event, President Javier Milei and Glencore CEO Gary Nagle unveiled a US$4 billion investment for the Agua Rica copper project in Catamarca. The project, which has been approved under the Large Investment Incentive Regime (RIGI), is expected to produce an average of 200,000 tons of copper annually, with estimated yearly exports of US$2.167 billion. Construction is slated to begin in November 2027, with operations expected to commence in October 2031.

Various provincial leaders, including governors from Corrientes, Chaco, Entre Ríos, Salta, San Juan, and Jujuy, also participated in the Paris mission to promote regional infrastructure, mining, and agro-industrial opportunities to European investors.
