Argentina-France diplomatic and economic engagement

Argentina is pursuing a dual track of cultural engagement and economic diplomacy with France. The ‘Semana Viví Francia 2026’ cultural festival is being held across Buenos Aires and several provincial cities, featuring French music, cinema, and gastronomy.

To complement these cultural ties, the Argentine government is organizing ‘Argentina Week’ in Paris from September 30 to October 2. This economic summit aims to attract international capital for the mining and energy sectors, specifically targeting discussions on critical minerals, nuclear energy, and artificial intelligence. The delegation for the Paris summit is expected to include President Javier Milei, Karina Milei, and approximately 14 provincial governors.

As the administration prepares for this diplomatic mission, domestic political tensions have intensified. National Deputy Gerardo Huesen of La Libertad Avanza reported being the victim of physical aggression and death threats during a political tour in Graneros, Tucumán. Huesen alleged that individuals linked to the local Mayor blocked his team’s vehicles and assaulted two collaborators, forcing the group to seek refuge in a police station. President Milei retweeted the legislator’s account of the incident.

Internal friction is also emerging within the government, as Senator Patricia Bullrich has signaled strategic differences with the administration regarding budget cuts to disability funds. These developments occur alongside ongoing legislative conflicts in Congress between the PJ and UCR over judicial investigations involving parliamentary advisors.
