Argentina leaves $1.35 billion of road tax unspent

A report by the Instituto Argentina Grande (IAG) shows that the Dirección Nacional de Vialidad (DNV) has spent only about one‑third of the fuel tax revenue it receives, leaving roughly 1.35 trillion Argentine pesos unspent. The unallocated funds could maintain about 9,148 kilometres of national roads each year – roughly a quarter of the network. The fuel tax’s share of gasoline prices rose from 8.9 % in November 2023 to 18.6 % by July 2026, while DNV receives about 14.25 % of the tax collection. Parallel data from the Federación del Personal de Vialidad Nacional (FEPEVINA) indicate that more than 70 % of national routes are in regular or poor condition, underscoring the impact of the financing shortfall.
