Argentina records historic monthly export surplus

Argentina achieved a historic milestone in September, with monthly exports exceeding US$10,000 million for the first time. According to data from the National Institute of Statistics and Censuses (INDEC), total exports reached US$10,036 million, representing a 23.5% year-on-year increase. This growth was driven by a 16.4% rise in prices and a 6.1% increase in quantities sold.

The energy and fuel sector was the primary driver of this record, with exports in this category growing by 89.1% year-on-year to reach US$1,781 million. Crude petroleum oil exports specifically accounted for US$1,127 million. Other significant contributors included industrial manufactures, agricultural manufactures, and primary products, all of which showed year-on-year growth.

Imports totaled US$7,060 million, a 1.8% decrease compared to the previous year. This combination of rising exports and declining imports resulted in a trade surplus of US$2,976 million for the month, marking the 34th consecutive month of a positive trade balance. For the first nine months of the year, the accumulated trade surplus reached US$21,198 million.
