Argentina marks 50 years of La Noche de los Lápices

Commemorations are being held in Argentina to mark the 50th anniversary of ‘La Noche de los Lápices’. In one event, the Student Deliberative Council held a special session to reflect on the historical significance of the event and the importance of youth participation in current society.

Student representatives emphasized that memory is built through listening and that the youth should be heard not only regarding the future but also in the present. They highlighted the responsibility of new generations to keep the memory of those affected alive.

In San Rafael, the Juventud Peronista organized a meeting titled ‘Memoria que organiza, juventud que transforma’. This gathering aims to link historical memory with contemporary student issues, such as the cost of education, student transportation subsidies, and the challenges of balancing work with studies in the current economic climate.
