Argentina mobilizes military forces to prepare for El Niño flooding
The Argentine Ministry of Defense has begun mobilizing Armed Forces personnel and resources to prepare for potential climate emergencies caused by the El Niño phenomenon. The primary focus is on the Litoral region, where there is a significant risk of flooding.
To ensure rapid response capabilities, the Argentine Navy is preparing logistical and sanitary assistance through the Fluvial Naval Area Command. Resources, including amphibious logistic vehicles capable of operating in flooded sectors, are being concentrated at the Zárate Naval Base. Other amphibious vehicles have been transferred from the Puerto Belgrano Naval Base to support these efforts.
In Rosario, the Argentine Army is conducting tactical training maneuvers, known as Operation Biguá, on the Paraná River. This operation involves approximately 1,000 personnel and includes tanks, armored vehicles, helicopters, drones, and artillery. These exercises are designed to test high-complexity operational capabilities, such as overcoming river obstacles, to ensure readiness for potential emergency situations in provinces including Misiones, Corrientes, Chaco, Formosa, Santa Fe, Entre Ríos, and Buenos Aires.
