Argentina National Parks implements El Niño contingency plan
The National Parks Administration (APN) has launched the ENOS 2026-2027 Work Plan across 18 protected areas in the Northeast, Northwest, and Central regions of Argentina. The initiative aims to mitigate risks associated with the El Niño-Southern Oscillation, specifically targeting intense rainfall, flooding, and other hydrometeorological impacts.
Operating under the Federal ENOS Coordination Plan activated by the Federal Emergency Agency, the strategy involves inter-institutional coordination between national agencies and provincial authorities. The plan focuses on identifying high-risk zones, strengthening meteorological and satellite information systems, and updating resource inventories to manage potential evacuations or assistance in isolated areas.
Protected areas included in the plan span several provinces, including Misiones, Corrientes, Chaco, Formosa, Entre Ríos, Santa Fe, Buenos Aires, Salta, and Jujuy.
