Argentina retirees and unions rally against pension cuts and Milei's labor reforms

Across Argentina, thousands of retirees joined by the CGT, the two CTA federations, UTEP and other social groups marched to the National Congress and gathered in Buenos Aires, Formosa, Entre Ríos and other provinces. Protesters demanded higher pensions, the restoration of the moratorium on pension increases, full coverage of medicines and the reinstatement of the “Volver al Trabajo” cash‑transfer program for informal workers. Slogans such as “Rubare ai pensionati è un crimine sociale” and testimonies like “Non si mangia tutti i giorni” highlighted acute hunger and inability to afford medication.

Union leaders, including Pablo Moyano of the Camioneros union and leaders of ATE and the judiciary union AJER, condemned President Javier Milei’s labour reform and the proposed pension reform in Entre Ríos, calling the measures a “regressive labour law” and a “retrograde pension bill.” The coordinated actions were described as the start of a broader “plan of struggle” that could lead to further strikes and mobilisations.

The protests reflect deep social discontent with the government’s austerity policies, affecting millions of pensioners and informal workers nationwide.
