Argentina police officer missing after crossing into Bolivia
Authorities are searching for Maximiliano Oscar Martínez, a 30-year-old Argentine Federal Police officer who has been missing for six days. He was last seen on September 8 crossing from La Quiaca, Argentina, into the Bolivian city of Villazón by bicycle to make purchases.
Since his disappearance, Martínez has not contacted his family, and his phone remains turned off. Prosecutor Alberto Omar Mendívil stated that a primary hypothesis is that the officer remains in Bolivia.
Search operations involve the Jujuy Police, Federal Police, National Gendarmerie, and Bolivian forces, including the Villazón Prosecutor's Office. Recent efforts include raids in Villazón, inspections of hospitals and lodging, and the analysis of security footage. A joint operation involving approximately 250 Argentine and Bolivian personnel was deployed near the Horacio Guzmán International Bridge.
