Disappearance of Argentine police officer near Bolivia

Overview

Maximiliano Oscar Martínez, a 30-year-old Argentine Federal Police officer, has been missing since September 8 after traveling by bicycle from La Quiaca, Argentina, into the Bolivian city of Villazón.

Following his disappearance, Interpol issued a yellow alert. Investigations are being conducted through a binational effort involving the Jujuy Police, Gendarmería Nacional, and the Argentine Federal Police, alongside Bolivian prosecutors and security forces.

As the search continues, authorities have expanded operations to include raids in Villazón, inspections of hospitals and lodging, and the analysis of security footage. A joint operation involving approximately 250 Argentine and Bolivian personnel has been deployed near the Horacio Guzmán International Bridge. Prosecutor Alberto Omar Mendívil stated that a primary hypothesis is that the officer remains in Bolivia.
