Argentina political reform stalls in Senate over PASO elections
Political reform efforts in Argentina remain stalled in the Senate. The project, prioritized by the government of Javier Milei, seeks to eliminate the Open, Simultaneous, and Mandatory (PASO) primary elections.
Opposition blocs, including members of the Peronist and dialogic factions, have resisted the change, viewing the primaries as an essential tool for managing internal party dynamics. While officialist leader Patricia Bullrich indicated that debate might resume around September 15, senators report a lack of necessary votes to move the legislation forward.
