Buenos Aires Peronism: Kicillof and Kirchner reach truce
Axel Kicillof, the Governor of Buenos Aires, and Máximo Kirchner have reached a political agreement to reorganize the provincial Justicialist Party (PJ). Following a meeting in La Plata, the two leaders established a distribution of party roles to stabilize the organization ahead of upcoming elections.
Under the new arrangement, Kicillof will maintain his leadership of the provincial PJ, while Máximo Kirchner will preside over the party's Congress, scheduled for November 21. This truce aims to reduce internal tensions between the governor's sector and the Kirchnerist faction regarding party leadership and future candidacies.
Separately, the province is facing political friction over a proposal to allow indefinite reelection for mayors. The Frente Renovador, led by Sergio Massa, has formally rejected the initiative, citing a commitment to democratic alternation and the 2016 law that limits consecutive terms. This stance has drawn sharp criticism from local mayors, including Ensenada Mayor Mario Secco, who argued that the current restrictions prevent many officials from seeking new mandates.
