Pope Leon XIV Plans First Visit to Argentina in Nearly 40 Years

The Vatican is planning a papal trip to South America in early November, featuring a three‑day stop in Argentina, ten days in Peru and a day‑and‑a‑half in Uruguay.

Argentine officials, including President Javier Milei and military bishop Santiago Olivera, say the itinerary is “practically defined” and the Argentine Episcopal Conference has formally invited the Pope. Proposed Argentine cities are Buenos Aires, Córdoba and Santiago del Estero, while the province of San Juan has also expressed interest.

Provincial authorities in Córdoba have begun logistical preparations, citing the ability to accommodate hundreds of thousands of faithful. The trip would be the first papal visit to Argentina since Juan Pablo II in 1987.
