Argentina prepares for Super Niño climate phenomenon
The ‘Super Niño’ climate phenomenon is prompting preventive measures across various regions in Argentina due to the risk of intense rainfall and flooding. This phenomenon, characterized by significantly higher sea temperatures in the Pacific near Peru, is expected to be of a ‘strong to very strong’ category, with temperature differences reaching 3.5 to 3.8 degrees Celsius above average.
In Mendoza, specifically in areas like Lavalle, there are concerns regarding sewage system collapses and excessive water accumulation. Experts predict precipitation levels could reach 600 to 700 millimeters in the coming months, a significant increase from the typical 200 to 300 millimeters.
In Berazategui, municipal authorities have intensified sanitation and cleaning efforts in watercourses, such as the Arroyo San Juan, to facilitate water drainage and prevent flooding. These maintenance tasks include removing vegetation and solids from the stream beds to prepare for forecasted heavy rains.
