Argentina's President Milei visits Ecuador, then Colombia
Argentina’s President Javier Milei arrived in Quito on 6 August 2026, where he laid a floral tribute in the Plaza de la Independencia before meeting Ecuadorian President Daniel Noboa at the Palacio de Carondelet. The bilateral talks focused on updating the 1933 extradition treaty, enhancing security cooperation, expanding air links and trade, and included the signing of several cooperation agreements. Milei also met representatives of the Argentine and Ecuadorian automotive chambers and attended the opening of an economic forum at the Swissôtel.
After concluding the Quito agenda, Milei and his delegation flew to Cali, Colombia. There he participated in the inauguration of President‑elect Abelardo de la Espriella, holding a separate bilateral meeting with Israeli Foreign Minister Gideon Sa’ar and a final meeting with de la Espriella before the ceremony. The tour is part of a broader regional diplomatic outreach, occurring amid heightened tensions with Brazil, and marks the first official visit by an Argentine president to Ecuador since 2007.
