Argentina President Javier Milei Faces Impeachment Calls Over Defense Decrees

Senate Peronist bloc leader José Mayans denounced President Javier Milei as a “president cipayo” and argued that Milei is “violating the Constitution” by authorising the entry and exit of troops through emergency decrees. Mayans said these actions, including the deployment of foreign warships in the Argentine Sea and cooperation with the United States without congressional approval, constitute treason and make the president subject to impeachment.

Mayans also accused Milei of following a “Trump‑Netanyahu” model, warning that such policies could have disastrous consequences. Government minister Patricia Bullrich responded sharply, defending the president and rejecting Mayans’ accusations.

The remarks were made during the closing speech of a Senate session debating a bill on the inviolability of private property, intensifying political tensions over Milei’s defence policy and use of decrees.
