Javier Milei’s approval climbs to 40% as Argentine economy shows early signs of recovery
A private survey by Atlas Intel and Bloomberg recorded the President of Argentina, Javier Milei, at a 40 percent positive image, up from 36 percent two months earlier, while his negative rating fell to 56 percent. The same poll showed a sharp decline in the approval of Kirchnerist figures, with Governor Axel Kicillof’s positive consideration dropping from 46 percent to 38 percent and former President Cristina Kirchner also losing support.
Analysts link the shift to recent economic data: June inflation slipped below the 2 percent mark, the consumer‑confidence index rose 6.4 percent – its strongest gain since November – and disposable‑income growth of 1 percent was recorded in May. Activity indexes showed modest improvement, with the General Activity Index rising 0.7 percent in May.
Meanwhile, the government announced a refinancing of a $6 billion repo line through 2028 and is arranging a further $5 billion of multilateral financing. The country‑risk premium fell to 415 basis points, opening the door for a possible return to the international bond market if it drops below the 400‑point threshold.
