Argentina Senate approves 29 judicial appointments and diplomatic promotions

The Argentine Senate approved a package of 29 judicial and diplomatic pliegos. The most debated item was the five‑year extension of Judge Víctor Pesino's mandate at the National Labor Appeals Court, which passed 36‑31 after the judge had lifted a precautionary measure that halted the Milei government’s labor reform.

The session also confirmed 26 diplomatic promotions, moving senior officials to higher ambassadorial categories with retroactive effect from January 2024 or 2025. In addition, the Senate ratified numerous federal judicial vacancies: appointments for judges in San Juan, Buenos Aires (including the Lomas de Zamora criminal court), Corrientes, and the Federal Oral Court in Tucumán, as well as new federal prosecutors for Corrientes and other districts. Provincial bodies also filled seats on the Buenos Aires Council of the Magistrature, giving La Libertad Avanza a seat after a contest with the PRO.

Overall, the approvals aim to reduce vacancies, reinforce the judicial infrastructure, and support the executive’s legislative agenda ahead of the legislative recess.
