Interior Minister Santilli meets governors to push electoral reform in Argentina

Interior Minister Diego Santilli held a series of meetings at the Casa Rosada with provincial governors to build support for the government’s electoral reform agenda. He met with Chaco Governor Leandro Zdero, San Juan Governor Marcelo Orrego, and Tierra del Fuego Governor Gustavo Melella, focusing on the proposal to eliminate the open, simultaneous, and obligatory primaries (PASO). The governors affirmed their willingness to coordinate with the national administration on the reform and discussed regional development projects, including infrastructure works in San Juan.

The meetings occurred amid heightened political tension over the controversy surrounding Cabinet chief Manuel Adorni, prompting the Milei administration to seek broader provincial backing for its legislative programme. Santilli’s outreach reflects the government’s strategy to secure provincial endorsements ahead of the reform’s vote in Congress.
