Argentina President Milei faces internal Libertarian rift as chief of staff meeting highlights discord

President Javier Milei’s governing coalition, La Libertad Avanza, is embroiled in a sharp internal dispute. Presidential adviser Santiago Caputo and Chamber of Deputies president Martín Menem have been trading accusations on the social platform X after an anonymous account @PeriodistaRufus posted material that linked Menem to the adviser’s camp. Caputo has publicly attacked the account’s operators, while Menem’s allies claim the account was fabricated. Milei has repeatedly tried to downplay the episode, stating, “Eso fue algo que le han plantado a Martín Menem, eso está prefabricado,” and refraining from taking a side.

Amid the turmoil, Milei met with his chief of staff Manuel Adorni at the Quinta de Olivos in a “breakfast of work” to discuss the government’s legislative agenda, including lobby‑law reforms and other policy initiatives. Both the Caputo‑aligned “Fuerzas del Cielo” faction and the Menem‑aligned bloc acknowledge that the power struggle over political and communications control within the party remains unresolved. The administration stresses that the disagreements do not affect routine governance, but the public spat and claims of deception have fueled speculation about the stability of Milei’s cabinet and the future of its reform program.
