Argentina prosecutors allege illicit funds in Kirchner family business case

Prosecutors have presented accusations in the oral trial involving former President Cristina Fernández de Kirchner and her son, Deputy Máximo Kirchner, regarding the Los Sauces and Hotesur cases. During hearings before the Federal Oral Tribunal 5, prosecutors alleged that the family business, Los Sauces SA, received more illicit funds than legitimate ones.

The prosecution's hypothesis suggests a scheme where public works contracts and state benefits were awarded to private companies, which then channeled money back to the Kirchner family through real estate rentals and corporate structures. According to the indictment, a significant portion of Los Sauces' revenue came from businessmen with ties to state contracts, including Lázaro Báez, Cristóbal López, and Fabián de Sousa.

Specifically, the prosecution noted that of the approximately $25.9 million in rental and hotel income reported by Los Sauces during the analyzed period, 65% allegedly originated from Grupo Indalo companies and 23% from companies linked to Báez. The court has scheduled further hearings for November to continue reading the accusations from both the prosecution and the Financial Information Unit (UIF) before moving to the defendants' statements.
