Argentina ranks among world's least affordable housing markets

Argentina has been ranked 169th out of 181 countries in terms of housing affordability, according to data from UN-Habitat. The ranking measures the relationship between property prices and household income.

In Argentina, an individual would need the equivalent of 22.7 years of total income to purchase a home, assuming all earnings are dedicated to that purpose. This figure is significantly higher than the global average of 11.2 years.

Within South America, Argentina's housing accessibility lags behind several neighbors. For comparison, Brazil requires 18.3 years of income, Venezuela 18.9 years, Colombia 17.5 years, Chile 15.6 years, Uruguay 13.7 years, Ecuador 11.1 years, and Bolivia 10.5 years. The report highlights a widening gap between household purchasing power and real estate market values, noting that access to long-term mortgage financing remains a critical factor for families seeking homeownership.
