Argentina readies historic logistics operation for equipment arrival at Ushuaia power plant

The provincial government of Tierra del Fuego is coordinating a large‑scale logistics effort to receive more than 1,800 units – about 6,200 tonnes – of equipment arriving by ship from China for the new Ushuaia power plant. Energy Minister Gabriela Castillo led a meeting with Chinese‑owned Austral Petróleo, Gas y Electricidad and transport firm Logística Antártica to outline the steps from port unloading to road transport and storage.

The plan calls for a temporary customs‑controlled warehouse where the components will be organized before being moved to the construction site. Municipal authorities are also involved to manage heavy‑vehicle traffic through the city, aiming to minimise disruption while ensuring a safe and orderly operation that will enable the next phase of the plant’s construction and bolster the region’s electricity supply.
