Argentina regional initiatives target railway reactivation and agricultural trade

In Argentina, regional authorities are pursuing infrastructure and trade initiatives to boost local economies. In Buenos Aires province, a proposal has been introduced for Necochea to join efforts by the municipalities of Ayacucho, Tandil, Lobería, and Balcarce to reactivate the railway branch connecting these areas to Puerto Quequén.

Local officials are seeking to include the recovery of this freight line in the new contractual scheme for Ferrosur Roca. The branch has been inactive since 1998, and proponents argue that its reactivation would strengthen the regional logistics system by providing an alternative to road transport for moving large volumes of production to the strategic node of Puerto Quequén.

Separately, the Buenos Aires Ministry of Agrarian Development has signed agreements with five municipalities in Corrientes—Santa Lucía, Esquina, San Isidro, Empedrado, and Felipe Yofre—to connect Corrientes' family agriculture with consumer markets in Buenos Aires. This initiative aims to facilitate the sale of products such as rice, fruits, vegetables, and honey, helping small and medium-sized producers find new commercial channels amid declining domestic sales.
