Argentina reports divergent economic trends in Jujuy and national income data

Argentina is experiencing divergent economic trends at the provincial and national levels. In the province of Jujuy, the poverty rate is reported to be 4.70% below the national average. Local officials attribute this to structural measures, including the continuation of public works funded by provincial resources, such as the paving of 110 kilometers of roads and a housing plan for over 700 homes. Additionally, the provincial government has maintained subsidies for public transport and electricity for 68,000 low-income families, while absorbing essential health programs previously funded by the federal government.

Nationally, however, data from INDEC indicates deepening inequality and a decline in purchasing power. During the second quarter of 2026, nominal incomes grew by 29.3%, but when adjusted for an accumulated inflation of 33.2%, real income saw a 2.9% decrease. The Gini index rose to 0.428, signaling worsened income distribution. The gap between the richest and poorest deciles has reached a ratio of 13 to 1, with the lowest deciles experiencing a 3.8% drop in real per capita income.
