Argentina residents voice concerns over water quality and governance
A university survey of 400 residents in the Partido de General Pueyrredon found high overall satisfaction with water and sewage services—98% reported having tap water, 73% were satisfied with water quality—but revealed major gaps in public knowledge and participation. Many respondents could not identify the source of their water (25%), were unaware of oversight by OSSE (33%), and 96% said they rarely take part in water‑management activities. The study also highlighted low household water‑care practices, with only 17% always fixing leaks and 42% never cleaning their water tanks.
In the La Plata neighborhoods of 48 and 22, residents complained that tap water arrives laden with brown sediment, quickly saturating home filters and forcing frequent, costly replacements. Neighbours reported that water appears clear when poured but leaves brown residues in filtration devices within weeks. They criticized Aguas Bonaerenses S.A. for inadequate responses, noting that complaints over the past year have yielded no transparent test results or lasting fixes, increasing health concerns and household expenses.
