Buenos Aires Province launches new professional driver licence system

From 6 June 2024 the Province of Buenos Aires began issuing professional driver licences under a new regime announced by Transport Minister Martín Marinucci. The system, created through a delegation agreement with the National Agency for Road Safety (ANSV), separates licences into “jurisdictional” – valid only for trips inside the province – and “interjurisdicional”, which permit transport across provinces or abroad.

Interjurisdicional licences now require external psychophysical, theoretical and practical assessments by ANSV‑approved providers, and the licence back must bear the legend “JURISDICCIONAL”. The reform affects categories C1, D1, D2, D3, D4 and E2 (which may be issued under either regime) and makes C2, C3 and E1 exclusively interjurisdicional. Municipal centres continue to handle the initial and final steps of the process, with appointments required for examinations and training.

Marinucci said, “Estamos dando un paso importante para profesionalizar aún más la conducción en la Provincia. La seguridad vial no admite atajos ni improvisaciones.” The changes aim to raise road‑safety standards, unify evaluation criteria nationwide and move toward a single national driving licence for professional drivers.
