Argentina sees over 80 femicide victims in Mendoza since 2015 amid cuts to gender‑violence services

A study by the Ni Una Menos collective documented more than 80 women killed in femicide cases in Mendoza province between 2015 and the present, highlighting the absence of official statistics and calling for stronger assistance and protection mechanisms for women facing violence.

At the national level, budget reductions have devastated gender‑based violence programs. The Supreme Court has yet to rule on a lawsuit demanding state explanations for the protection of women, children, and adolescents. Funding for gender‑equality policies fell by 89%, the emergency hotline Línea 144 lost two‑thirds of its budget, and the Programa AcompañAR, which offered emotional, legal and economic aid, saw its users drop from 102,510 in 2023 to just 3,572 in 2024 – a 96.5% decrease. Benefits were halved in duration and a prior‑complaint requirement was added, further limiting access for victims.
