Argentina Senate approves 67 judicial appointments

The Argentine Senate has approved 67 judicial appointments, a move the administration of President Javier Milei describes as a historic record. According to an official statement from the President's Office, this represents the highest number of judicial approvals achieved in a single year since the creation of the Council of the Magistracy in 1994.

The approved positions include 45 new judges, 9 new prosecutors, 12 new public defenders, and one additional prosecutor appointment. These designations aim to fill vacancies across various judicial districts in the country.

The government credited Patricia Bullrich, president of the La Libertad Avanza bloc in the Senate, for building the necessary political consensus to achieve the vote. Justice Minister Juan Bautista Mahiques also received recognition for his role in advancing the coverage of these judicial vacancies. The administration noted that the approval, which saw 66 affirmative votes, demonstrates the possibility of reaching institutional agreements despite political differences.
