Argentina Senate approves 74 judicial appointments, confirming Veronica Michelli and Bariloche judge

The Argentine Senate voted to approve 74 judicial candidate lists, ending a prolonged debate over the vacancies in the national judiciary. Among the confirmed appointments is María Verónica Michelli, who will join the Federal Oral Tribunal No. 3 in La Plata despite criticism over her family ties to journalist Hugo Alconada Mon. The decision was reached after negotiations between parliamentary blocs, with some governing party members abstaining.

The Senate also approved the nomination of Leandro Agustín Gómez Constenla as federal judge for the First Instance Court in Bariloche, filling a seat that has been vacant for nearly seven years. The vote was 64‑0 in favor, with six senators absent. Gómez Constenla, a 45‑year‑old lawyer with 27 years of experience, will await the presidential decree and official publication before taking the oath. The proceedings highlighted concerns about the state of Argentina’s justice system, which several senators described as being at its “worst moment.”
