Argentina Senate approves appointment of Judge Verónica Michelli

Argentina's Senate approved the judicial roster that includes the nomination of Verónica Michelli, a candidate whose appointment had been opposed by President Javier Milei because she is the sister‑in‑law of journalist Hugo Alconada Mon. The vote on the single pliego for Michelli was 44 in favour, 18 against and two abstentions, with former security minister Patricia Bullrich abstaining after initially backing the nomination.

The approval comes after the Senate earlier approved 73 other judicial and prosecutorial slots, part of a broader effort to fill vacancies in the national judiciary. The final step now rests with President Milei, who must sign the decree to formalise Michelli's appointment.
