Argentina Senate approves bill to include emotional education in schools
The Argentine Senate has granted half-sanction status to a bill that would incorporate emotional education into the national curriculum. The initiative, proposed by Senator Flavio Fama, seeks to amend the National Education Law No. 26.206 to promote the development of emotional skills across initial, primary, and secondary education levels.
The project aims to provide students with tools for the recognition, understanding, and healthy expression of emotions. For primary education, the bill mandates pedagogical resources to help students identify and process emotions. For secondary education, it focuses on strengthening the capacity of adolescents to manage conflicts, frustrations, and developmental challenges.
Senator Fama argued that the measure serves as a primary prevention tool for mental health, citing recent increases in anxiety, depression, sleep disorders, and behavioral issues among children and adolescents. The bill now moves to the Chamber of Deputies for further debate.
