Cristina Kirchner and Máximo Kirchner face unified corruption trial

The unified trial for the Hotesur and Los Sauces cases began in Argentina, involving 19 defendants, including former President Cristina Fernández de Kirchner and her son, Deputy Máximo Kirchner. The proceedings, held at the Comodoro Py courts in the Sala AMIA, follow a decision by the Federal Chamber of Criminal Cassation to merge the two investigations.

Prosecutors allege that the Kirchner family operated a criminal association between 2003 and 2015 to launder public funds through family-owned hotel and real estate businesses. The prosecution claims that state contractors, such as Lázaro Báez, Cristóbal López, and Fabián de Sousa, channeled money back to the family via simulated rental contracts and hotel stays.

Cristina Fernández de Kirchner is accused of leading the illicit association, while Máximo Kirchner is accused of being its organizer. Both face potential prison sentences of up to ten years for money laundering and illicit association.

While the initial hearing allowed defendants to participate via telemetric means, the Federal Oral Court No. 5 specified that future sessions will be conducted strictly in person. The trial is scheduled to take place on Mondays, Fridays, and Saturdays.
