Argentina taxi drivers stage protests against ride‑hailing apps

Taxi and remise drivers in Argentina organized demonstrations to oppose the operation of ride‑hailing platforms such as Uber, DiDi, and Ubery. In San Juan, drivers joined by a caravan from Mendoza blocked streets in the city centre, demanding the full application of the new Transport Law and equal regulatory treatment for the apps. The protest caused traffic disruptions and prompted a police traffic‑control operation.

In La Plata, the Association of Civil Drivers of Remises (ACCRE) marched to the municipal office, urging officials to either ban the apps or align their requirements with those for traditional taxis and remises. ACCRE representative Iván Sosa reported a meeting with municipal officials to set up a working group aimed at finding solutions and highlighted safety concerns about unregulated motorcycle travel.

Both actions stress drivers’ concerns over perceived unfair competition, lower fares, and reduced profitability, while calling for stricter controls and regulatory parity for digital transport services.
