Argentina to implement new juvenile penal regime

However, the policy has faced criticism regarding its necessity and impact. Opponents argue that the reform is a punitive measure that contradicts crime statistics, noting that minors under 16 are responsible for only approximately 1% of homicides. Critics suggest the move prioritizes a ‘tough on crime’ political stance over addressing the underlying socioeconomic drivers of crime, such as drug trafficking and poverty.
