The Confederación de Trabajadores de la Educación (CTERA) called a 24‑hour national teachers' strike for Monday 3 August 2026. The strike, which also affects some public universities, demands higher salaries, the restoration of the National Teacher Incentive Fund (FONID) and greater education funding.

Argentina’s Ministry of Capital Human, led by Minister Sandra Pettovello, announced that a random, nationwide inspection will be carried out in schools to verify that at least 75 % of the normal educational service is maintained, as required by Law 27.802 (article 101) which declares education an essential service. The government warned that unions failing to meet the 75 % threshold will face legal sanctions.

Private schools are largely exempt because the teachers’ union Sadop did not join the strike. The Council Federal de Educación met with provincial and national education authorities to coordinate the inspections and the filing of sworn service declarations required from public‑school staff. The government’s aim is to protect the right to education and give families predictability during the strike.
