Argentina's CGT and CTA unions plan coordinated protests against President Milei's labor reforms

On June 18, the main Argentine trade‑union federations – the CGT and the two CTA coalitions – gathered at the CGT’s historic headquarters to draft a unified plan of action against President Javier Milei’s economic measures and new labor reform.

The meeting was chaired by the CGT triumvirate Jorge Sola, Cristian Jerónimo and Octavio Argüello, together with CTA leaders Hugo Yasky and Hugo Godoy. Participants highlighted the loss of workers’ purchasing power, accelerating layoffs and the erosion of collective‑bargaining rights. They outlined a staged protest strategy, beginning with a test action in Rosario on June 20 at the Monumento a la Bandera, and pledged further nationwide demonstrations. The unions also condemned the government’s policies at the International Labour Organization conference in Switzerland, accusing Milei of dismantling Argentina’s labor system.
