Argentina's CGT prepares new strike plan against Milei government

The General Confederation of Labor (CGT) in Argentina is coordinating a series of meetings to draft an immediate collective action agenda against President Javier Milei’s labor reforms. A plenary in the Chaco province, led by deputy secretary Adrián Bellomi, called for a possible provincial strike and large demonstration, stressing that the agenda would be defined that Friday and could be enacted within ten to fifteen days. Concurrently, the national CGT leadership, including secretaries Jorge Sola, Cristian Jerónimo and Octavio Argüello, met to share a common diagnosis of worsening employment conditions, loss of jobs and falling industrial activity, and discussed rotating sectoral strikes in transport, industry, ports, food and media.

The union also launched a video linking the Argentine World Cup victory to a call to “protect Argentine work,” using the national team’s jersey as a symbol of domestic production and urging workers to defend national industry. The CGT reiterated its opposition to Milei’s labor reform, having already taken the issue to the International Labour Organization in Geneva. All efforts aim to unite various labor and producer groups for coordinated, escalated measures against the government’s policies.
